Safety Assessment and Improvements Delivered by Transicon
Our customer, a leading metals processor, had an existing machine for surface dressing coating rolls to support the site strip coating process. The machine was designed and installed in the 1980’s and had limited fixed guarding with a safety control system that did not meet current standards. In addition to this, the DC drives fitted to the panel were obsolete. Transicon carried out a safety risk assessment on the machine and identified the key areas requiring rectification work. Transicon then designed a new main control panel complete with Siemens fail-safe PLC. This was installed on site along with solenoid safety interlocks at access points around the machine allowing all the hazards identified in the risk assessment to be mitigated. The machine now meets modern safety standards with modern controls. The upgrade was subsequently rolled out to multiple machines on site, with each system configured for the individual machine’s requirements.
